ArcGIS Workforce Retirement: What Users Need to Know

ArcGIS Workforce is scheduled for retirement in late 2026, marking a transition to a more integrated approach to fieldwork coordination through ArcGIS Field Maps. Organizations currently using Workforce should begin planning their migration to the Tasks capability to maintain supported workflows and minimize operational disruptions.
The retirement will take effect with the following releases:
- ArcGIS Online: Q4 2026 update
- ArcGIS Enterprise: Version 12.2, expected in Q4 2026
Until retirement, ArcGIS Workforce will remain available and supported, but no new features or enhancements will be introduced. Once retired, the product will no longer receive technical support.
Why Is ArcGIS Workforce Being Retired?
Esri is transitioning users from Workforce to the Tasks capability in ArcGIS Field Maps, introduced in September 2025. Tasks brings work assignment and coordination into an application that field teams already use for mapping, data collection, inspections, and navigation. This integrated approach allows organizations to manage field activities within a single mobile application rather than relying on separate tools. It also offers greater flexibility to configure workflows according to operational requirements.
For organizations managing mobile workforces, the transition presents an opportunity to simplify field operations and strengthen integration across the ArcGIS platform.
What Does the Retirement Mean for Existing Users?
ArcGIS Workforce comprises two connected components:
- Workforce web app: Enables supervisors and office teams to create, assign, and manage fieldwork.
- Workforce mobile app: Allows field workers to access assignments and record their progress.
Both components work together, meaning the mobile app depends on the web app for assignment management and configuration.
With the planned retirement, the Workforce web app will be removed from supported environments:
- ArcGIS Online: The app will be removed from the app switcher with the Q4 2026 update.
- ArcGIS Enterprise: The app will be removed beginning with version 12.2.
Organizations that continue using earlier ArcGIS Enterprise versions may retain access to the web app, but Workforce will be retired and unsupported. Although the mobile app may continue to run on devices where it is already installed, its functionality and continued compatibility cannot be guaranteed. Without the web app, organizations will also lose the ability to manage their Workforce deployments as before.
To avoid interruptions to field operations, users should transition to Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps before the applicable retirement dates.
How Long Will the Workforce Mobile App Remain Available?
The Workforce mobile app is expected to remain available in app stores until October 2027 to accommodate the transition timelines of ArcGIS Enterprise customers.
However, its continued availability does not mean the product will remain supported. During this period:
- No software updates or bug fixes will be provided.
- Compatibility improvements will not be released.
- Continued operation on existing or future mobile devices is not guaranteed.
- The app will remain retired and unsupported.
Organizations are encouraged to complete their migration as early as possible instead of relying on the extended app availability.
Android Compatibility Considerations
Android users should also be aware of existing compatibility limitations. ArcGIS Workforce is not supported on newer Android versions, and Google Play Store requirements have made the app unavailable for download on newer Android devices.
Existing installations may continue to work, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Organizations that depend on Android devices for field operations should factor this limitation into their migration plans.

How to Prepare for the Transition to ArcGIS Field Maps
Organizations currently using Workforce should begin evaluating their existing projects and planning their move to Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps. Early preparation can help teams maintain continuity, adopt supported mobile workflows, and take advantage of the newer capabilities available within the ArcGIS platform.
Esri has published a technical resource to guide users through the process:
Download the Workforce-to-Tasks Migration Guide

The guide explains how to configure Tasks workflows to align with existing Workforce projects. It also provides Python scripts that can help automate the transfer of data from Workforce projects into task layers for use in ArcGIS Field Maps.
These resources can help organizations preserve existing work and historical data while preparing their teams for the transition.
Make the Most of Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps
The Tasks capability offers a flexible approach to fieldwork coordination, supporting workflows that can be configured to meet different organizational needs. By moving assignment management into ArcGIS Field Maps, teams can bring work coordination closer to their everyday mapping and data collection activities.
The transition is an opportunity to review current field processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and build workflows that better support both office-based coordinators and mobile workers.
